Book Review: Reap - The Harvest Saga

Synopsis

The remnants of the United States of America have been divided. From five enormous, technologically-advanced cities, the Greaters rule over the Lessers.

In the Lesser village of Orchard, things are not as perfect as Abby Kelley thinks they are. When the apple harvest draws near and the Greater’s engineered fruits become too much for one village to handle alone, reinforcements from neighboring villages are called upon.
Having to choose between her best friend, whom she has no romantic feelings for, and mysterious newcomer Crew, Abby finds herself in the middle of a harvest that she had no intention of becoming a part of. She becomes involved in a situation that threatens the strict rule of the Greaters, and just might give the Lessers hope for a better tomorrow. But, can she help the Lessers without losing Crew? And if she chooses Crew, will she lose her best friend?

My Review

This is the first book in a three book series by Casey L. Bond. This book is 270 pages long.

The U.S.A crumbles and whatever is left is turned into a Monarchy, where Greaters rule and Lessers serve. Greaters give the Lessers enough materials and food to survive, but will that be enough. Abby has been in the dark most of her life, with her aunt, Lulu. The Greaters greedily take what they want, so now not only do Lessers have to harvest the engineered apples in the fields, but now they have to get reinforcements from other Lesser villages. Abby has been protecting many, but all it is doing is getting her hurt. When Greaters enter the village, secrets will be revealed and hearts will be broken. The Greaters are even more involved in bad stuff than ever thought. Abby is falling for Crew, but she will learn of his skeletons in the closets. To protect her best friend, Kyan and the rest of the village, Abby might have to sacrifice herself and others. Can Abby really hold the remains of the world on her shoulders? Who will Abby choose?  Kyan or Crew?

I really liked this book. I have never read a book with this concept before and it is very interesting. You will have to read the next book for some of your questions in this book to be answered, though. I was really rooting for Kyan and Abby. Best fiends can learn to love, right? I can't wait to read the next book and the book after that. I hope to read more of Casey L. Bond's work like, the Frenzy series. It looks very cool. There was mild cussing and nothing really bad. This is something for a wide variety of ages to read.

Book Review: The Queen of Zombie Hearts - The White Rabbit Chronicles

Synopsis

I thought I had nothing left to give. I thought wrong. They started the war. Now I will end it.
Alice “Ali” Bell thinks the worst is behind her. She's ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers…until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It's then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters…and the worst has only begun.
As secrets that may tear Ali and Cole apart come to light, and more slayers are taken or killed, Ali will fight harder than ever to bring down Anima—even sacrificing her own life for those she loves.

My Review

This is the third book in a four book series by Gena Showalter. This book is 460 pages long.

Alice Bell thinks that the slayers have finally one after the slayers found out about the healing fire, but they were wrong. In a matter of weeks Anima had killed four of her fellow slayer and injured many others. While looking for others she sees the witness that is like looking in a mirror. This witness gives her abilities beyond anyones' thinking processes. When the slayers are surrounded by zombies, Ali does the unthinkable..... She makes them float and then explode, including her fellow zombie slayers. There is one problem though.... She is having a hard time getting a grasp on what's going on. There are traitors in the team of slayers and Ali only has one option to save her friends and hunky boyfriend, Cole..... Surrender herself to Anima. Secrets and lies will be revealed to Ali along the way and many will die. Cole and Ali are getting more together, too! Who will die? Will Anima succeed in what they have planned?

This was a great book in all. I loved the romance and I did tear up at parts. This book is full of heartache.... and also HOPE!! This book was a great read with many twists and turns. It makes you want to help the slayers and be with them to rid the world of Anima. I was sitting on the edge of my chair while reading... Very suspenseful.

The only problem I had with this book was the fact that on Amazon, this was marked as teen read.... It is not. This is definitely New Adult. Parental discretion advised. There is vulgar language and sex-related themes. They do actually have sex, but it isn't very descriptive.

Book Review: I, Zombie

Synopsis

It's the end of the world as we know it.

Trixie Collins is a normal teen making her way through high school. One night at a party, a boy comes on to her and won't take no for an answer. As she jerks her arm away, his fingernails cut into her skin.

When she finds her dog's mutilated body and realizes she's to blame, she starts to think maybe the zombie apocalypse they've been screaming about on the news isn't a hoax after all. Worse, she begins to think maybe she's one of the infected.

Now it's a fight for life as she joins together with her brethren to stop the humans intent on destroying them. Are zombies all bad, or is it just a huge misunderstanding?

My Review

This book was written by Jo Michaels and is the first and only book in this series. The book is 256 pages long.

Trixi Collins used to spend her time at high school with her best friend Lexi and Jack, her ex boyfriend and best friend. Then, one night at a party, her and Jack are both injured and the infection spreads. The news starts overflowing with information on a new outbreak. Everyone decides to jump to conclusions, so now "hunters" roam the streets shooting any of the infected. The "zombies" are all in hiding until they get a telekinetic call from Trixi telling them to come to Jack's hideout to stay safe. Trixi and Jack have one mission....... Survive! Jack thinks he has figured out how to cure this disease, but everyone is either dead or in hiding. Trixi and Jack have always been friends, now something even worse than "zombies" is growing between them. What will happen to the rest of the "zombies"? Will they find a cure?

I loved this book!! The zombies weren't portrayed as mindless killers, they had their minds and they could get organized. It was just a infectious disease that came around. It chews up the subject's vocal chords and eardrums, too. I pitied the hunters, because they were killing innocent people that were just sick. WARNING!WARNING! This is a book that will make you cry..... I know I did and that doesn't happen often. This is a clean book that only has mild grotesque scenes. I wish Jo Michaels would have made another book, because there is many opportunities. Jo Michaels, you are a great author..... Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this great book!

Book Review: Whispers and Wishes - The Sage Springs Series

Synopsis

Eliza Monroe has been traveling the United States for three years, immersing herself in the towns she visits as she searches for the mother she’s never known. She hopes returning to her grandmother’s inn in Sage Springs, Mo., will provide the break she needs to evaluate her lonely life.

What Eliza isn’t expecting is to have two men enter the picture, not making her decision to stay or leave any easier. One has been her foundation, while the other is as comfortable as she is hopping from city to city. Throw in a kooky grandmother, a cheerful best friend, a sarcastic guest, a town where residents and spirits interact like neighbors, and Eliza has little time to contemplate her future.

Friendships grow, webs are spun and lies are revealed before Eliza comes to terms with what she wants in life and learns what's really important.

My Review

This is the first book in a three book series by Hollie Westring. This book is 236 pages long.

On a mad goose chase around the country searching for the mom she never knew, Eliza Monroe heads back to Sage Springs until she gets news from Tom, her private investigator, about her mother's location. When at the airport she sees Jake, the boy who said he loved her when she ran, and he takes her to see her coocky grandmother. Lexi, Eliza's best friend, has been trying to tell Eliza about the broken down inn, but long-distance relationships don't work very well. On Eliza's return, she learns of her grandmother's lover and the inn's shape after Manny, the inn's keeper, left. Eliza is staying at the inn until after Fall Fest. After making new friends, including Ivy and Gavin(The definition of Tall, Dark, and Handsome), Eliza finds it even more difficult to stay or leave and find her mother. Not all is who they say and what you think might not be what it is. Will Eliza stay in Sage Springs? Where is Eliza's mother now?

I loved this book, especially the characters. This was very well-written with cool spirits and spell-binding wishes. This little book was packed full of surprises that would never be expected. Even though 200 page books usually take me about a day, this only took a couple of hours. I can't wait to read the next book in the Sage Springs series. I've been trying a new method of reviewing the books I've read. I am starting to do video reviews. If anyone would like their book video reviewed, then contact me on my Facebook page or my blog directly.

Book Review: Though the Zombie Looking Glass - The White Rabbit Chronicles

Synopsis

Zombies stalk the night.
Forget blood and brains. These monsters hunger for human souls.
Sadly, they've got mine…
Alice Bell has lost so much. Family. Friends. A home. She thought she had nothing else to give. She was wrong. After a new zombie attack, strange things begin to happen to her. Mirrors come to life, and the whispers of the dead assault her ears. But the worst? A terrible darkness blooms inside her, urging her to do very wicked things. She's never needed her team of zombie slayers more, but ultra bad-boy Cole Holland, the leader and her boyfriend, suddenly withdraws from her…from everyone. Now, with her best friend, Kat, at her side, Ali must kill the zombies, uncover Cole's secret and learn to fight the darkness.
But the clock is ticking…and if she fails at a single task, they're all doomed.

My Review

This is the second book in a four book series by Gena Showalter. This book is 480 pages long.

Ali and the other slayer, including her bad-boy boyfriend Cole Holland, are trying to take down Anima, but there is a kink in their plan when Ali is bitten... Her two heartbeats were beating very fast. Time is running out and she has to protect her fellow slayers at all costs, including taking her own life. These dark urges that can't be explained are changing her from the inside to the outside. There could be a possible antidote, but she would have to trust a stranger that worked for Anima. Cole has his own secrets and their visions together aren't them at all. A new slayer, Gavin, has been having "romantic" visions with Ali. That could break up Ali and Cole forever. Kat's condition is getting worse, but she's living life to the fullest. Will Ali and Cole break up? What is this new darkness awakened in Ali?

This was my favorite out of the two books I've read, so far. I love the twists. And the romance. This book was funny, to me at least. I can't wait to read the third book, too. After I read the third book, I'm going to read the indie books these nice authors sent me. I can't wait!! There is mild cussing and inappropriate themes.

Book Review: Alice in Zombieland - The White Rabbit Chronicles

Synopsis

SHE WON'T REST UNTIL SHE'S SENT EVERY WALKING CORPSE BACK TO ITS GRAVE. FOREVER.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone. Her father was right. The monsters are real. To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

My Review
This is the first book in a four book series written by Gena Showalter. This book is 410 pages long.

Alice and her sister, Emma, have spent most of their lives locked away from the rest of the world, because their dad could see "monsters" no one else could. Alice always hated her dad, until the night of a crash that killed her family. She now understands the "monsters" dad supposedly saw. After taken to the hospital, she meets Kat, a fun-loving friend for life type of gal. They become instant friends and then she meets Cole Holland and his gang. It was love at first sight, hehehe!! Actually, they had a vision together of them fighting and kissing, etc. That vision became a reality when the gang learned of her abilities to see and fight these "monsters". Will Alice be able to avenge her family? Are the visions real? Will Alice ever really fit in with the gang?

This was a great book with good descriptions. There are a lot of twists and turns, but the main focus is an action-packed romance. I think Gena Showalter did a great job describing the zombies. I would never think of the zombies as spirits and people aren't able to see them unless they are slayers. That was a great touch... Alice's abilities are great, too. She is even more kick-butt than Cole and the other slayers!! The only thing to consider "bad" is the mild cussing and some inappropriate themes.
