My Review

This is Selected by Evelyn Lederman. This book is 200 pages long.

Kara lives in a small town, goes to a small school, and has always thought her life was small in the long run, but when she finds out aliens exist her life will change forever. The aliens gave humans a choice... Send their younger teens on an adventure or humanity dies. Everyone of the right age, including Kara and her crush, Matt, are being forced to take tests to see if they have alien DNA present in their blood. When Kara learns that her and her crush are to be taken; they start to think of what this adventure means. The series of tests they must complete just keep getting more difficult, but Kara and her team are powerful enough to make it. What tests need to be passed? Will Kara survive? What do the aliens really want?

This was a GREAT book!! I don't normally read Sci-Fi, but this was a pleasant surprise. I loved all of the different challenges that had to be faced by Kara and her crew. Kara is a strong heroine that has a good backstory, but survives hard times. There is mild cussing, so this is a book for most ages. I would definitely recommend this book for Defiance, the show, fans to read.

This is book on episode 1 of The Dimension Series by Misty Provencher. This book is 76 pages long.

President Baro has ultimate power over all the citizens of what used to be Earth. Now everyone is marked into categories that signify how important they are and if they should be droned. Not even the high-ranking citizens are safe anymore. President Baro has started mis-using his power to the point of mass-dronings and eliminating anyone that could stand in his way. Force and his friend, Pawl thought that if they became like their fathers, they would end the tyranny of the President, but the President is full of surprises. Force didn't know how involved his father was in all of the deaths and dronings, but he will soon find very disturbing information in the depths of his father's files. Force has to put all of his plans on hold when he finds out about his mother's problems. Will Force be able to win the President over? What is Force's father hiding? Why is Force's mother having problems?

This was a very cool book!! It was very futuristic, but civilization was on the brink of non-existing. I liked the twists at every corner, which only made the maze of the book a lot more fun to find the end. I enjoyed the side romance and I can' wait to read the next book and another of Misty Provencher's book, Cornerstone! There is only mild cussing, so this is appropriate for most ages.

My Review

This is the prequel to the White Mage Saga by Ben Hale. This book is made up of 50 pages and is 10,000 words.

The Swordsman is a well-known name that is feared and respected by many. He may be an assassin, but he lives by a code... No killing the innocent. His latest contract has put him on edge, because of the truth that his target has revealed to him. All of his doubts turn the way of vengeance as he searches for the people lying and manipulating him into killing innocent people. When blades clash, the Swordsman makes an unusual ally and discovers that a prophecy thought to be legend might actually exist and he has a part to play... Protect a VERY powerful and magical innocent.

This was a GREAT book, even though it was short. I would recommend this to anyone that likes Sci-Fi/Fantasy. What really drew me into this book when I went to UTOPiAcon was the cover. The cover had a very gamer graphic vibe and it kind of reminded me of The Assassin's Creed. This book has no cussing and is a good read for all ages. Ben Hale did a great job describing everything that was going on and I found myself a part of the book. Good job Ben Hale.. I can't wait to read more of your books!!

This is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. I read the paperback book which is 552 pages long.

 

Cress continues the journey of both Cinder and Scarlet. We didn't realize it at the time, but we were actually introduced to Cress back in book one! She's a poor Lunar girl who was born a shell and has spent her entire life in isolation aboard a space ship that looks down on earth.

 

Cress is an excellent adaptation to Rapunzel.

 

Cress joins the adventure after being rescued (or at least an attempted rescue) and has to trek across the desert with the help of her dreamy knight in shining armor.

 

This book series just keeps getting better and better. I'm still mostly team Scarlet and Wolf, but the other love stories are fun too.

This is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. I read the paperback book which is 505 pages long.

 

Scarlet continues where Cinder left off. We are still following Cinder as she tries to escape prison and save Kai from the evil Lunar Queen. But we are also introduced to a new character named Scarlet.

 

Scarlet is a play on Red Riding Hood. Her grandmother goes missing, and in her journey to find her she meets a man named Wolf. Wolf agrees to help her in the search, but he is not all that he appears.

Eventually they cross paths with Cinder and join up with her.

 

It's hard to believe, but I actually found myself in love with Scarlet and Wolf more than Cinder and Kai! There is something just really exciting about their circumstances and the romantic tension between them.

 

 

I love where the story is going and can't wait to start the next book in the series!

This is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. I read the hardcover book which is 400 pages long.

 

Cinder is a take on the fairy tale Cinderella, set in a futuristic world where aliens and cyborgs are a normal thing. A plague has spread over the land and when someone Cinder loves gets it, she is forced into the hands of scientists that would do tests on her to find a cure.

 

But she makes a few friends and discovers much more about the Lunar people than she thought. She risks her life to save those she cares for and ends up discovering her own hidden secret in the process.

 

At first I wasn't sure I was going to like this story. I'm more of a fairies and dragons fantasy lover, but I thought I would give it a try. It was written really well and pulled me in pretty quick.

 

I think the twist of it being based on an old fairy tale was really cool. It's not an exact retelling, which I love. It has it's own twists and turns.

 

I will definitely be reading the next book.

My Review

This is the first book in a two book series by JoAnna Morris. This book is 219 pages long.

For all of Eden's life, the only thing she has seen is her "refuge camp" for the lessers of Empyrean. She has always wore this black stone around her neck, but something changed and it is now glowing. When she sees her brother's best friend out of "bot mode" she starts to get confused. Bots are brainwashed to carry out the orders of Cesar, the ruler of Empyrean, but this bot is in control of his actions. When she receives a letter, everything changes and not all in a bad way. She meets a group of teens known as the "rebels" they have the ancestors on their side and are given special abilities. What Eden doesn't know is she is in for the ride of her life. Will Eden help the rebels win? How is the bot in control again? Why is her necklace glowing?

I loved the concept of this book and how it was kind of in-between the future and the past. The title definitely fits this book, though. I love the characters' personalities. I hope to read the second book, because it was left at a cliff-hanger. Argghhh.... This is me ripping my hair out. I really want to read the next book. For those of you that are going to read this, be sure you have the second book at hand, as well. There was nothing bad in this book and this book is for all ages.

This is the third and final book in a three book series by Casey L. Bond. It is 200 pages long.

The Greaters have reached the last straw.... The Lessers will have their revenge!! Abby finds her mom and dad, but they aren't who they seem. Abby's mom wants to help Abby relieve the King of his duty, because of his "suicidal missions", but she is just as power-hungry. Abby is going back to the Greater city to get all of the Lesser females back to their villages, but there is a surprise that Abby just figured out.... She's pregnant!! She has to get the females out and kill the Greaters with a poison that only effects the Greaters, but she could possibly infect herself. She is both Greater and Lesser. Kyan has finally found "the one", but all could be jeopardized with a simple mistake. And Kyan could just have signed Abby, his love, Abby's mom, and the child's death wish. What will happen to Abby? Who is the father? Will Abby's mom become just as power-hungry as the King?

This was my favorite of the books and I was so surprised at the ending. I wish there could be another book to talk about a few years after this book took place. I like how Casey L. Bond added lots of twists and turns. The maze of a book was large, but all was explained at the end. Bravo, Casey L. Bond!

My Review

This is the second book in a three book series by Casey L. Bond. This book is 224 pages long.

After Abby escapes the Greater city and Crew, she comes back to her small Lesser village in an unstable state. There are guards watching everyone for the slightest hint of "rebellion". If Abby thought the beating she took was bad it is nothing compared to what the guards have ordered. Inside the Greater city, things are worst, as well. There is a rebellion on the inside and Crew might just be the leader, but he has to play the part and marry who the King wishes. Abby sees the news and her heart breaks even more. How will she survive? Who will fix her broken heart? Will the rebellion win?

This was a great book and I really want to see how it pans out. There was parts where I teared up and parts where I got pissed off, too. I got really excited at a certain part, but I don't spoil so you're going to have to read it yourself. I feel like we are already live the way Abby does. The rich are the Greaters and the poor are the Lessers. Casey L. Bond is a great writer and I've already said this, but I want to read her Frenzy series really bad. I sounds like a great read and I've heard great things about it from some people. There is only mild cussing.

The U.S.A crumbles and whatever is left is turned into a Monarchy, where Greaters rule and Lessers serve. Greaters give the Lessers enough materials and food to survive, but will that be enough. Abby has been in the dark most of her life, with her aunt, Lulu. The Greaters greedily take what they want, so now not only do Lessers have to harvest the engineered apples in the fields, but now they have to get reinforcements from other Lesser villages. Abby has been protecting many, but all it is doing is getting her hurt. When Greaters enter the village, secrets will be revealed and hearts will be broken. The Greaters are even more involved in bad stuff than ever thought. Abby is falling for Crew, but she will learn of his skeletons in the closets. To protect her best friend, Kyan and the rest of the village, Abby might have to sacrifice herself and others. Can Abby really hold the remains of the world on her shoulders? Who will Abby choose?  Kyan or Crew?

I really liked this book. I have never read a book with this concept before and it is very interesting. You will have to read the next book for some of your questions in this book to be answered, though. I was really rooting for Kyan and Abby. Best fiends can learn to love, right? I can't wait to read the next book and the book after that. I hope to read more of Casey L. Bond's work like, the Frenzy series. It looks very cool. There was mild cussing and nothing really bad. This is something for a wide variety of ages to read.

My Review

This is the eighth book of a nine book series written by James Patterson. This book is 368 pages long.

This is the final chapter. Not all is how it seems and Max has a problem. Fang si in trouble and Ari might not be as dead as everyone thought. Max is falling for Dylan head over heels. When voices return the flock to their mission, Fang comes back to protect Max, but that puts a kink in Dylan's plan. Dylan isn't as he seems and neither is many of the others. Max's mom found a paradise to keep the mutants safe. Max can still save the mutants, but the humans are as good as dead. There is a new virus that will kill everyone. Angel can see Max's death, uh oh!! Will Fang and Max be together again? Is Max gonna die?

It was so unbelievable. The ending was very unexpected and awesome. I always rooted for Fang and Max.I teared up at the end, though. I'm done with this series though so my schedule for indie books is open.

My Review

This is the sixth book out of a nine book series written by James Patterson. This book is 337 pages long.

Max has to save the planet, by helping one person at a time. Guess what, Max and the flock are going to Africa. Angel has made a very dreadful statement... Fang will be the first to die. max and Fang have been like siblings forever, and just recently they have become sort of an item. Max just can't live without Fang. While Max and the flock are in Africa, they meet Dr. Hans and Dylan. Dylan is supposed to be Max's perfect match, with wings. There is a betrayer in the flock. And a new force is awakening, What is this new force? Is Dylan the perfect match? Is Fang really going to be the first to die?

When I read this synopsis, I freaked! Fang is the tall, dark, and handsome guy of your dreams. This ending is so not what I expected and it ended with a cliff-hanger. I was sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time. With new twists and turns, this book was awesome. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm almost done with this series. It is a book for almost all ages.

My Review

This is the fourth book in the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. This book is 273 pages long.

Saving the world may be easier than Max thought.... Just kidding! Max hates the cold, but saving the world was never coined as glamorous. A team of scientists in Antarctica are trying to save the world from global warming. Fang is keeping up his blog and telling people to help make a change against global warming. The flock isn't as safe as people hoped. There are mysterious new threats approaching and a silent sniper targeting them. That's not the worst part though. New abilities are coming into there lives and the scientist and ex-father, Jeb, says they never got programmed. There is a lovely romance between Max and her mystery lover. Mystery, as in, she would never expect it. Is the flock mutating into something new? Who is this mysterious lover?

I loved this book, even though it was short. It was 273 pages of feathery goodness that many can enjoy. I am on the fifth book now and I am so excited. I don't usually like romance, but this is a great change in scenery. I feel like I am part of the flock, because of how complex and well-written the characters are. James Patterson is a great writer and I can't wait to read more! After I finish with this series, I am going to read the third book of the Dawn Trilogy, Light of Dawn. I am so excited to read it, since there was a cliff-hanger in the second book!!!

This is book one of a two book series. This great books' creator's name is Jenn Nixon. This book is 458 pages.

She was passing faster than anyone thought and she was getting closer to her goal of being an elite guardian. As she grows of age, she realizes that she falling for someone. I liked the book. I mean, it was pretty slow in the beginning, but it sped up sometimes. I was a little upset with some of the turn-out's in the book. I cried at some of the outcomes, which doesn't happen often. I am very tempted to read the next book. Me and my teacher had a long discussion on this book's genre. We concluded it at futuristic past. It was set in the future for are age, but in the medieval times of the future.
